Islamabad: Former Senate chairman and senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Dr Farooq H. Naik was appointed as federal minister for law , justice and parliamentary affairs on Wednesday.
Mr Naik was sworn in by President Asif Ali Zardari during a ceremony held at the presidency also attended by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and others.
He replaced Maula Bux Chandio, a PPP leader from Sindh, who took over the charge after Babar Awan resigned from the post to argue Bhutto reference in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Awan, who was considered right-hand of the PPP co-chairman and the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, has now been sidelined by the leadership due to his refusal to appear before the apex court as a witness in a contempt of court case against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
