Manila: The Philippines on Sunday advanced to a third-round tie in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group II relegation playoffs after beating Pakistan, 5-0, at the PCA courts in Paco, Manila.
Francis Alcantara trounced Muhammad Abid, 6-2, 6-1, and Johnny Arcilla defeated Yasir Khan, 6-3, 6-4 in the reverse singles to complete the sweep for the Philippines.
With their win, the Philippines advanced to the third-round tie on September 14 against the winner of the other second-round tie, which is between Indonesia and Thailand.
The Philippines will also have a chance to get promoted to Oceania Group I.
