Rawalpindi: The Inter-Services Public Relations, media wing of Pakistan’s army, has said that 100 soldiers were buried in an avalanche in Skardu.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, ISPR Director General Major Gen Athar Abbas said that an army camp was buried by an avalanche in the disputed Kashmir region.He said the incident took place around 6:00 morning.
Abbas said the avalanche had hit a military camp and a rescue operation was underway.
Sources in the army said that heavy machinery have been sent to the area to expedite the rescue operation.
He said that sniffer dogs and helicopters and soldiers were busy in rescue work. Media reports said an avalanche buried 150 troops in Siachen Glacier .
