Lahore: Unscheduled loadshedding at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital has thrown a young girl into coma when doctors were performing her surgery, report said on Monday.
21-year-old Shazia, an FA student, has been put on ventilator in the intensive care unit of the hospital where doctors term her condition critical.
Shazia was suffering from appendicitis when the doctors operated on her, during which the electricity went out and the ventilator stopped functioning. The lack of oxygen negatively affected Shazia’s brain.
The team, formed by the principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College Dr Javed Akram to investigate the matter, confirmed that Shazia went into a coma due to the sudden lack of oxygen when the electricity went out.
