Washington: United States (US) on Tuesday praised Syria’s reported acceptance of a peace plan by U.N. envoy Kofi Annan as an “important step”.
Giving a press briefing to media US State Department Spopkesperson Victoria Nuland said that Although Syrian government led by President Bashar-al-Assad regime agreed to implement on the UN proposal but the proof would be in the actual action that he takes.
“We will be looking for him to take immediate action to begin implementing Annan’s proposals, starting with silencing his guns and allowing humanitarian aid to go in,” Nuland added.
Meanwhile, opposition groups agreed to form a “national pact” and united to form an alternative to President Bashar al-Assad.
Earlier, Annan aides said the Assad government has accepted a six-point proposal the U.N.-Arab League special envoy, on halting the crisis in the strife-hit country which includes commitment to stop all armed violence, a daily two-hour humanitarian ceasefire, media access to all areas affected by the fighting, an inclusive Syrian-led political process, a right to demonstrate and release of arbitrarily detained people by Assad.
It is to be mentioned here that according to a UN report more than 8000 innocent people were killed brutally by Syrian government led by Bashar-al-Assad regime.
