Sanaa: At least three Yemini soldiers were killed in two separate attacks carried out by al-Qaida militants in Southern Yemen, Reuters reported on Thursday.
According to reports, the gunmen snatched the officer from the provincial city of Mukalla on Wednesday and shot him dead several hours later. Security forces and troops traded fire with the gunmen after discovering the body.
Ansar al Sharia, a group affiliated with al Qaeda, said in a statement it had executed the officer for spying on its members.
In other incident in southern province of Lahj, Islamist militants killed two Yemeni soldiers during an attack on a military checkpoint.
It is to be mentioned here that ‘Ansar-al-Shariya’, a Yemini branch of al-Qaida, took advantage of uncertain situation of the country during the former President Saleh Abdullah’s tenure and seized some of the southern parts of the country.
