Lahore: Pakistan’s banned pacer, Mohammad Amir has apparently admitted for the first time his guilt in the spot-fixing scandal and apologised for his actions, media reported on Monday.
According to reports, speaking in detail to former England captain, Mike Atherton in an interview to Sky Sports Amir told about the spot-fixing scandal and his role in it.
Amir said that he was not involved in the scandal but he was trapped in the scene by former Pakistani opening batsmen Salman Butt.
Revealing the truth Amir said that it was Salman Butt along with bookie Mazhar Majeed who pressurised him to throw a no ball in the match.
The banned pacer said that Butt and Majeed cheated him and told him that they had proofs regarding his talks with a businessman named Ali whom he met in Dubai.
“Ali met me in Dubai and claimed that he is a friend of Salman Butt and asked me to give my account number,” he said, adding that he gave his number to Ali to find out why he was asking for his number.
Amir further said that although he received 1500 from Mazhar but never meant to use that amount as he felt that that it was a sin to use such amount.
“I feel very shame on my act and apologise for my actions from Pakistan nation and cricket lovers whom I let down due to my actions,” he added.
The pacer said that he was not mature enough when he was exploited by Butt and Mazhar but he want to advice the young cricketers to avoid taking any gifts and money from strangers.
Salman Butt’s father and former cricketers rejected Amir’s statement and said that it was to late to tell the truth and if he knows the truth then why he restrained from telling it at the time when he was convicted.
It is to be mentioned here that the fast bowler was convicted along with teammates, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif for involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during the Lord’s Test in 2010.
