Abdul Sattar Edhi likely to be nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Karachi: After a very enthusiastic and extensive campaign by Pakistani social media users, Abdul Sattar Edhi likely to be nominated for Nobel Piece Prize.

According to available reports Known for establishing the world’s largest ambulance service, a Karachi man is now in line to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Edhi is one of the most famous men in Pakistan. He opened a medical clinic which eventually spawned the world’s largest ambulance service and an international charity.

Began as a signal person with a passion to serve deserving Pakistanis Edhi’s welfare network is now in every big city of Pakistan.

Abdul Sattar Edhi describe him and their work as: I am an uneducated person, I have never read or write, I do this work because it’s give me so much joy”.

A few months back an online petition has been launched to nominate Edhi for Nobel Peace Prize 2012, In which so far 111,008 signatures have been received as a sign on endorsement by different peoples.

Pakistani people recognised Edhi as a deserving candidate for world highly acclaimed honour because he has single-handedly served countless Pakistani’s and left a lasting impact on his fellow countrymen and the world.

Earlier in November 2011, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has recommended renowned philanthropist for a nomination of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

Each year the respective Nobel Committees send individual invitations to thousands of members of academies, university professors, scientists from numerous countries, previous Nobel Laureates, members of parliamentary assemblies and others, asking them to submit candidates for the Nobel Prizes for the coming year. These nominators are chosen in such a way that as many countries and universities as possible are represented over time.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is responsible for the selection of eligible candidates and the choice of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates. The Committee is composed of five members appointed by the Storting (Norwegian parliament). The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, Norway, not in Stockholm, Sweden, where the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and the Economics Prize are awarded.
