Islamabad: Former army chief Gen (Retd) Aslam Baig on Friday submitted sworn affidavit over the statement of former Mehran Bank chief Younis Habib Waraich as the Supreme Court resumed hearing into Asghar Khan petition pertaining to disbursement of money among anti-PPP politicians by the ISI.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case. Rejecting, Waraich’s statement, Gen Baig claimed that the ex-Mehran Bank chief was trying to vilify him and former president Ghulam Ishaq Khan.
He said that there were political motives behind Younis Habib Waraich’s statements and the court proceedings were being tried to scandalize. Baig contended that Interior Minister Rehman Malik had visited Germany in an effort to make the scandal.
The ex army chief said Mr Waraich had tried to hide embezzlement of Rs180 million as he never mentioned the money earlier.
He argued that disappearance of record of Let Gen (Retd) Nasirullah Babar and Let Gen (Retd) Assad Durrani was mysterious.
