Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Friday began proceedings into suo motu case against Waheeda Shah, who tortured female polling staff during by-elections on Feb 25 in Tando Muhammad Khan.
An SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case. The CJ remarked that the incident was more grave than the killing of youth by Rangers in Karachi.
“Why shouldn’t we remove Sindh police IG, A DSP didn’t action despite he was present on the occasion” he remarked. He said the DSP acted as silent spectator.
He said that no action was taken while media has been highlighting the issue.
The Election Commission of Pakistan Secretary Ishtiqa Ahmed told the court that results of the by-election for the constituency were withheld following the incident.
The CJ told Waheeda Shah that he had sympathy for her for death of her husband. Waheeda Shah said she had come to the Supreme Court to tender an apology. “Whatever happened was unintentional,” she said.
