Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction over the secret agencies report pertaining to 11 detainees of Adiala Jail.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case.
During the hearing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary produced health reports of the detainees and told the court that 35 relatives the prisoners met them.
“We are shocked to read the report,” The CJ remarked. He said sacrifices rendered by agencies were appreciated but they will have to act as per law.
He said that neither the detainees were kept in army custody nor being tried under Army Act. He remarked that the court was still not informed which agency was holding the prisoners.
“Balochistan is burning, bodies are being dumped and all this is attributed to agencies,” chief justice remarked.
The bench also remarked that the thinking that only agencies were patriotic should be changed. “We have to consider as to why four of 11 detainees lost their lives”
Agencies’ lawyer Raja Arshad Kayani told the court that the agencies only acted against the enemies of the country. He told the court that the four detainees did not0 die in agencies custody rather they died in hospital during hospital. Kayani said the detainees were kept in internment centers as the agencies could not try the suspects under the Army Act.
He claimed that foreign agencies were funneling funds in Balochistan.
The hearing was adjourned to March 16.
