Islamabad: A local Pakistani family, resident of Malakand district, has appealed to the government and nongovernmental organisations to help it secure release of 80-year-old member languishing in an Indian jail for over 40 years, Pakistan leading English daily Dawn reported on Thursday.
According to the newspaper Gul Rehman, of Palai Sher Khana area, said his 80-year-old father, Abdul Jalil, along with his uncle, Ghulam Sarwar, went to Bangladesh to earn a livelihood before the fall of East Pakistan but disappeared in 1971 and was later reported to be languishing in an Indian prison. He told the paper his father had committed no crime and therefore, should be freed without delay.
Mr Rehman told the newspaper that his 130-year-old grandmother, Bibi Hawa, had been anxiously awaiting her son`s homecoming for 42 years.
`Her (grandmother) last wish is to see her son home,’ Rehman was quoted by Dawn as saying.
