Perth: Australia have continued its winning journey and beaten Sri Lanka by five runs in a nail-biting match in the Common Wealth Series here on Friday.
Sri Lanka failed to chase a reasonable score of 232 and all wickets out on just 226 in the second last ball of the match. Angelo Mathews was the highest scorer who made 64 crucial runs for the Sri Lanka and provided ray of hope to his team but was bowled in the last over.
Xavier Doherty was remain very economical bowler who took two wickets for only 24 runs in his 10-over spell. While Mitchell Starc and Daniel Christian also picked up two wickets each.
Earlier, Sri Lankan bowlers created problems for the strong batting line of the hosts and restrained to only 231. Skipper Michael Clarke was the only batsmen who scored half-century.
