Tokyo: Sony has announced a major reshuffle at the top, replacing chief executive and president Howard Stringer with consumer products chief Kazuo Hirai.
Stringer, both Sony’s chief executive and president, will step down April 1st, the company announced this morning.
The move was expected because Sony Corp., predicting a fourth consecutive year of losses, and after falling behind Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co.
Hirai, 51, played a major role in developing the PlayStation in the 1990s and has spent most of his career at Sony in videogames, movies, music and other software businesses.
Sony is projecting an annual net loss this year of 90 billion yen ($1.2 billion), as it reels from the impact of a strong yen, weak sales, and severe flooding in Thailand.
