Islamabad: Pakistani security agencies have started crackdown against foreigners residing illegally in in Southern Punjab, sources on Wednesday.
The sources said that most of the foreigners in South Punjab were associated with different non-governmental organizations (NGO) which were working in region. The sources added the many of the foreigners were working in the area despite the expiry of their visas and other documents.
Last week, two foreign nationals, an  Italian and German, were kidnapped from Multan city.
Well placed intelligence sources told The News Tribe that the crackdown was being carried out after a shift in foreign policy in wake of the Salala attack. Last week security agencies had arrested three germen spies from Peshawar but later they were released.
On January 19, Norway’s internal security chief Janne Kristiansen had also resigned after revealing confidential information that the country had intelligence agents  operating in Pakistan.
