New York: Apple has launched iBooks 2 application for the iPad that brings interactive textbooks to the popular tablet computer following the news that more than 1.5m of the tablet devices are being used in educational institutions.
The announcement came at their education event, which took place yesterday in New York city.
iBook Author will allow publishers and educators to produce digital textbooks that have interactive and animated features.
The electronic textbooks, which include “Biology” and “Environmental Science” from Pearson and “Algebra 1” and “Chemistry” from McGraw-Hill, contain videos and other interactive elements.
iBooks textbooks offer students access to full-screen, interactive books with 3D objects, diagrams, photos, videos and improved navigation.
Apple has also introduced the iBooks Author app, which allows aspiring authors to upload textbooks and other ebooks.
