Jakarta: Indonesian railway authorities have come up with a unique even a deadly idea to stop people from travelling on the roofs of trains.
According to report, the authorities have decided to fixed rows of grapefruit sized hanging concrete balls, each weighted 20 kilogram, above railway tracks so that people cannot travel on the roof. The new tactic could severally injure the travelers.
The authorities had tried to hosing down the scofflaws with red paint, threatening them with dogs and appealing for help from religious leaders.
“We have tried just about everything, even putting rolls of barbed wire on the roof, but nothing seems to work,” said Mateta Rizahulhaq, a spokesman for the state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api.
Dozens of people, who ride on the roofs of the trains, loss live every year in Indonesia.
However, most of the riders told local media that they would continue to ride on the roofs because it was an opportunity for them check their luck.
