New Delhi: Indian Army Chief VK Singh on Monday filed a writ petition in Supreme Court over his age row, Indian media reported.
General Singh, who has consistently claimed that he was born in 1951 and not 1950 as maintained, had in his statutory complaint asked the Defence Ministry to consider May 10, 1951 as his date of birth.
The government has said that though it has no doubts about General Singh’s integrity, the documents that it has to consider do not support his claim. “Just nobody…nobody should believe that the General has not spoken the truth,” said Law Minister Salman Khurshid last week. But “rules are rules,” he added. The General has said that he is concerned about “his honour and integrity” and not his tenure.
The Army Chief had earlier filed the statutory complaint with Defence Minister A. K. Antony after the government issued an order on July 21 in which it said that it will consider May 10, 1950 as his date of birth.
