Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party leader and Member National Assembly Jamshed Dasti has announced to leave the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in what appeared to be a latest blow to the ruling party amid its rising tensions with the judiciary and the military establishment.
He told media that he would contest next general election as an independent candidate. Dasti who was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan from the National Assembly for possessing fake graduate, has said that he was facing pressure in his constituency and it was impossible for him to work for people of his constituency by remaining in the PPP. He was once again elected as MNA from Muzaffargarh NA-178.
Dasti said he would resign from the PPP either the leadership approved it or not. Dasti said that lawmakers from south Punjab had opposed party decision of giving portfolio of Foreign Minister to Hina Rabbani Khar. He said that the party gave priority to Hina Rabbani Khar over old party worker.
The MNA said that he had left his party and would also resign from the National Assembly.
