London: Wayne Rooney was dropped from a match and fined 200,000 pounds after he talked about a night out he had with his wife Coleen.
Rooney and Coleen had gone out to dinner, along with Man United players Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans and their respective partners, on Boxing Day.
The trio reportedly incurred the considerable wrath of boss Sir Alex Ferguson with their less than impressive performances in training the day after hitting the town and, despite none being guilty of breaking the club curfew, all three were fined a week’s wages.
The loss of Evans meant Michael Carrick was forced to once again fill in at centre-back, while out-of-favour striker Dimitar Berbatov kept his place in the absence of Rooney.
The move backfired as Rovers took full advantage to shock a makeshift United team and record only their second victory at Old Trafford since 1962.
