Islamabad: Highest ever record of polio cases has broken in Pakistan, with 173 new cases emerging this year, said National Institute of Health.
According to a report issued here on Friday, the NIH said 173 new cases of polio had been registered in Pakistan this year so far. The report said 68 polio cases were registered in Balochistan, 50 in Federally Administered Areas (FATA), 19 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 30 in SIndh, 5 in Punjab and one in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The report said that six cases had been detected in Balochistan and 2 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week.
As many as 144 polio cases were detected in the country last year.
