Seoul: Samsung Electronics said its annual mobile phone shipments have crossed 300 million already this year for the first time in Samsung’s history, up from 280 million in 2010.
The company said in a statement the 300 million sales mark was reached at the end of November, which means that that number could be much higher by the end of 2011.
The record was achieved at the end making Samsung the second mobile phone maker after Nokia to achieve such a feat.
Much of the sales success in 2011 came from sales of the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II smartphones. The Android-powered Galaxy S II has now sold over 10 million units since Samsung launched the phone back in April, statement added.
Samsung’s next big flagship phone is the Galaxy Nexus, which is the first smartphone that runs on Google’s Android 4.0 operating system.
