Srinagar: A day after suspected militants made an abortive bid on the life senior minister of Indian administered Kashmir government Ali Mohammad Sagar, a senior ruling party leader and uncle of Chief Minister Mustafa Kamal has alleged that involvement of army in the attack cannot be ruled out.
“The militants cannot be blamed for everything. Militancy has died and it is being kept alive for a purpose and militants cannot be blamed for everything People know very well who can plan such ghastly attacks. New Delhi cannot befool people anymore,” Mustafa Kamal was quoted as saying by an English newspaper, Greater Kashmir being published from Srinagar.
Pointing towards army, the senior leader of ruling National Conference said, “Why didn’t any such attack took place in down town Srinagar earlier? Why did it happen when talks were on about the lifting of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from some areas of Kashmir including down town?”
Mustafa Kamal, who is uncle of J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleged that anyone including army, separatists and opposition Peoples Democratic Party could be behind such attacks. “People with vested interests want to keep the pot boiling. Army has been strongly opposing AFSPA revocation while separatists know that if AFSPA is revoked they will have to close their shop.”
He said Indian army enjoys unbridled powers in Jammu and Kashmir. “They can do anything till AFSPA is here. AFSPA allows them to do anything,” he added.
AFSPA gives impunity to Indian soldiers for their acts in Indian administered Kashmir.
He said if militants were really responsible for the attack, then security agencies and army should explain how militants managed to enter the city and carry out the attack on senior minister of the Kashmir government.
Earlier, after series of grenade attacks in Kashmir on October 25 this year, Mustafa Kamal had blamed army for the attacks. “Finger of suspicion points towards army as they don’t want AFSPA to be revoked,” he said said.
