Chittagong: Pakistan on Saturday have gained a strong lead of 280 runs with the help of outstanding performances by the batsmen at the end of the second day of first test match against Bangladesh in Chittagong.
Mohammad Hafeez completed its fourth test century after smashing 143 runs with the help of 14 fours while veteran Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq were still not out 96 and 40 respectively.
Younis Khan, the star batsman has also achieved the milestone of crossing 6,000 test runs and he was the only fourth Pakistani cricketer to cross 6,000 runs.
Hafeez started the second day on 74 before he was trapped lbw by Elias Sunny in the second session. Hafeez’s onslaught against Bangladesh ended when he got forward to defend Sunny, but the ball hammered the inside edge and clipped his back leg, prompting umpire Billy Doctrove to raise his finger.
Hafeez put Pakistan in a strong position when he added 164 for the opening wicket with left-handed Taufeeq Umar (61) and 56 for the second wicket with Azhar Ali (26).
While captain Misbah-ul-Haq not continued his momentum and dismissed on 20.
Pakistan is in the midst of an unbeaten streak stretching back to the one-day series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates last month. It swept the one-day series against Bangladesh 3-0 and came out on top in the one-off Twenty20 match.
Bangladesh has won just three of its 71 test matches since gaining test status in 2000.
