Srinagar: The Indian administered Kashmir continues to shiver with cold as the temperature during the night fell further below the freezing point. The weatherman has predicted light to moderate snowfall in the region on December 2.
“Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of -1.9 degrees Celsius,” a weather department official said.
He said temperature fell to -5.1 degrees Celsius in tourist resort of Pahalgam in South Kashmir. “The famous skiing resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir recorded minimum temperature of – 4.6 degrees during the night,” he said.
The official said Qazigund – considered gateway town in south Kashmir, was freezing at – 3.8 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in North Kashmir recorded minimum temperature of – 1.5 degrees Celsius.
He said Leh town in Ladakh region was coldest place in the region. “It recorded minimum temperature of – 11.4 degrees Celsius last night. The adjoining Kargil town was also freezing at – 6.2 degrees Celsius,” he said.
Much to the discomfort of the people, the official said the weather conditionin the region is expected to remain dry and cold for the next few days. Owing to the intense cold, the woolen clothes and heating gadgets are back in demand in the region.
Meanwhile, the weatherman predicted that there are chances that the region may witness snowfall on December 2. “Owing to Western disturbances, it is expected that plains in Kashmir may witness light to moderate snowfall while upper reaches may experience heavy snowfall on December 2,” he said.
