Islamabad: Pakistan’s foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar has told US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that Nato attack negated progress in improving the tattered alliance between the two countries.
According to sources, FM Khar telephoned Clinton on Sunday and told her that the attack was unacceptable, showed complete disregard for human life and sparked rage within Pakistan.
The U.S. says Ms. Clinton expressed sympathy over the incident and promised the U.S. would work with Pakistan as Nato conducts an investigation.
Later, FM Khar telephoned British counterpar William Haig and informed him about the decision taken by the Defence Committee of the Cabinet. Khar told him that the strike has sparked anger in Pakistan against US led Nato forces in Afghanistan.
On Saturday, US led Nato troops killed at least 24 Pakistani security officials, including two officers and 15 others injured in an air strike on Salala check-post Pakistani troops in Mohmand tribal region near Afghan border.
Pakistan’s Defence Committee of the Cabinet had decided shut down Nato supply routes into Afghanistan with an immediate effect and also asked the US to vacate Shamsi Airbase within 15 days.
