Karachi: Dow University of Health Sciences today called upon a Protest Meeting to condemn the kidnapping of doctors of Dow University of Health Sciences and Ghulam Muhammad Maher Medical College Sukkur who were kidnapped from Jacobabad on Sunday evening.
The Protest Meeting was held at Arag Auditorium of Dow Medical College. The meeting was presided by Vice Chancellor-DUHS Prof. Masood Hameed Khan. It was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor- Prof. M. Umer Farooq, Principal DMC-Prof. Junaid Ashraf, PMA President-Dr. Idress Edhi along with faculty, doctors from Civil Hospital and other hospitals, members of civil societies, students and media personalities from both print and electronic media.
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan in his remarks strongly condemned the kidnapping of doctors and said that doctors could not work in an environment of insecurity. He expressed deep sorrow and grief and called for ensuring safety and security of doctors fraternity. He requested the government to make efforts in the release of the doctors. He further said that a judicial inquiry should be set up to investigate the issue. He urged that strict action against culprits should be made and they must be brought to justice.
Prof. Umer Farooq, Pro Vice Chancellor-DUHS informed that till Monday morning no FIR was lodge against the kidnapping of the doctors. He requested the protection of the doctors community by the higher authorities responsible for law and order.
Prof. Junaid Ashraf, Principal-Dow Medical College informing about the incident said that Prof. Imtiaz Waggan and Assistant Professor Azhar Ali Shah had come to Jacobabad from Karachi to meet some friends. They left for Sukkur on Sunday morning in a car for taking the exam of the students of Ghulam Mohammad Medical College Sukkur. However, they did not reach Sukkur and their car was found abandoned near Sabzi Mandi in Jacobabad which suggested that they were kidnapped.
Prof. Idress Ehdi in his address accused the investigative authorities to be very slow and indifferent in tackling issues of such great importance. He strongly demanded the government to take prompt action to recover the kidnapped doctors and assure safety of other working doctors.
