Addu: The 17th summit of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will starts from tomorrow in Maldives. The summit will be attended by heads of states and governments of its eight member countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal,Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and representatives of Observer States.
The SAARC nations have been more realistic than their peers in the ASEAN and EU, indicated an official source on the eve of the two-day Summit.
The Council of Foreign Ministers concluded its meeting today and  has agreed to give more authorities to the Secretariat in order to strengthen the administrative structure and functioning of the eight-member regional organisation.
Speaking to journalists here in Addu, Chair Ahmed Naseem said a study would be made on strengthening the administrative functioning of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has already arrived here on Wednesday to lead Pakistan’s delegation The Prime Minister was accorded a red carpet welcome when he alighted from a special plane. He was received at the Gan International Airport by President of Maldives Mohammad Nasheed and other officials.
