Opener Virendar Sehwag departed after scoring a brisk 55-run innings, which included five sixes and two fours. Gautam Gambhir, who recently got married, managed only 22.
Earlier, off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin produced some fine bowling on Tuesday to help India bowl West Indies out at 180 in their second innings of the first test. He grabbed six wickets and took his match figures to 128-9.
Shivnarain Chanderpaul scored 47 and skipper Sammy 42. Ravi Rampaul hit 18 off 31 balls.
Sachin Tendulkar reached 15,000 runs during his innings.
