Zurich: FIFA has lifted a ban on Myanmar’s participation in the 2018 World Cup, but that a fine imposed over the violence wrought by the Asian state’s supporters stays.
The incident happened on July 28 during the second leg match between Myanmar and Oman as part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. The game was brought to a sudden halt by the referee in the 45+2 minute after local supporters hurled objects onto the field.
FIFA confirmed the score at the time of interruption of the game at 2-0 for Oman, who had won the first leg of the game at the same score and said that the result would be final, qualifying Omar for the next round of Asia’s preliminary competition.
In addition to the exclusion, the Myanmar Football Federation was ordered by FIFA to pay a fine of 25,000 Swiss franc ($27,725).
