Karachi: The Karachi University Teachers Society (Kuts) continued its protest drive against conferment of honorary PhD degree on Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik for his ‘services for maintaining peace’ in the port city of Karachi. The teachers boycotted classes on Wednesday and demanded of the KU administration to reverse its decision .
The decision to boycott classes was taken at the general body meeting of the society on Tuesday. The participants of the meeting criticized the university’s decision and urged that the name of the university should not be allowed to use for political ends.
As per details, teachers boycotted lasses for two hours, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
President Kuts, Dr Abid Hasnain expressed his resentment over the decision and demanded the university administration to reverse the decision.
He said that if the decision was not withdrawn, the Kuts would evolve it future’s strategy in it general body meeting which would be convened after the society’s elections.
It is to be mentioned that Rehman Malik was conferred an honorary doctorate degree by Karachi University (KU) at a special convocation held at Governor’s House on October 11.
