Tunis: Tunisia’s Islamist Ennahda Party has taken lead in the landmark elections emerging from the uprising around the Middle East.
Electoral officials are counting votes in polls in which 90% of registered voters casted ballots.
Official results are expected on Tuesday. The secular centre-left PDP party, has admitted defeat.
Ennahda’s leaders have pledged to create a multi-party, secular democracy.
According to reports international observers praised the conduct of election as free and fair. Tunisians voted for electing a 217-seat assembly that will draft a constitution and appoint an interim president, who will choose the new government.
