Islamabad: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday said that she was agreed with Army Chief General Kayani’s remarks that Pakistan was not Iraq and Afghanistan rather it was a sovereign country and had lot of issues to discuss.
She said that US wanted to eliminate Haqqani network, adding that she had in-depth discussions with the Pakistani leadership ranging from bilateral issues to threats arising from extremists.
Addressing a joint press conference with her Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar, she said that US sees strong Pakistan for regional stability. Replying to a query about Haqqani network, she said that both the countries agreed to eliminate threats coming from any side. We must take action on both sides of Pak-Afghan border. “We want to squeeze them so that they are not able to target people and we are increasing our efforts in Afghanistan in this regard.
Clinton said that high power delegation from both the sides discussed concrete steps regarding peace process.
She said that it was in the interest of Pakistan and the United States to fight against terrorism. “Ending terrorism is most important task before us” She added.
She said that US wanted peaceful and stable Pakistan, adding that Islamabad would continue playing its important role in Afghan peace process. She added that US respected Pakistan’s sovereignty and sacrifices rendered by the people in country’s war against terrorist.
Extremists have been able to move here and from Pakistani territory. We wanted to eliminate Haqqani network and all the extremists”, she added.
She said that an unfortunate chapter of Libya’s history had closed with the death of Colonel Gaddafi.” But it marks a start of new era for the Libyan people and the US would continue its support for them.
Speaking on the occasion, Hina Rabbani Khar said that stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan “No country in the world wanted unstable Afghanistan” she said and added that Pakistan’s interests in Afghanistan were limited to stable Kabul.
Hina Rabbani said that Pakistan was determined to fight against the menace of terrorism.
“Terrorists exist on both side of border” she added. Hina Rabbani reiterated “give peace a chance” stance during the press conference.
