Karachi: Provincial Minister and leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rauf Siddiqui on Wednesday moved to the court of district and session judge South with the plea to book former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza on blasphemy charges.
Earlier, district and sessions Central returned Rauf Siddiqui’s application with the directives to approach the concerned court.
Rauf Siddiqui alleged in the application moved under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code that Dr Mirza while addressing a press conference on Oct 9 had made derogatory remarks against the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Mr Siddiqui submitted through his lawyer that he had approached the police station to lodge an FIR against Dr Mirza, but police said they would not register the case without permission from their seniors.
The MQM leader requested the court to direct the officers concerned to register the FIR. The court will hear the application on Thursday.
