Lahore: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that it is the top priority of present government to resolve problems of journalists. The government has shown exceptional respect for media freedom, he claimed. on Sunday.
Addressing the oath taking ceremony of newly elected body of Lahore Press Club, the prime minister said media is undoubtedly playing a significant role in the current challenging scenario, specifically in the fight against terrorism. He claimed that the present government has good relations with media.
“I have already announced the establishment of endowment fund of 2 million rupees for the welfare of journalists and the families of journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty. It is our top priority to resolve the problems of journalists.”
He said the present government did not believe in press advice and censorship.
He said that Pakistan has informed the United States that relations between both the countries should be based on equality.
“Those who are thinking about shortcuts to take power should wait for their turn,” he said.
