Islamabad: The National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has increased power tariff by Rs.3.4 per unit in what appears to be the highest ever increase in the history of the country.
The Nepra allowed Rs.3.4 per unit increase in power tariff under the fuel price adjustment formula.
The recent hike will be applicable to all the electricity users except the lifeline consumers.
Prior to the approval the increase plea was heard at Nepra after which all the distribution companies were allowed the increase.
According to the Nepra sources, Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) requested for hike of Rs. 3.06.
According to reports, production of electricity dropped by 600 million units during August.
