Abu Dhabi: Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Farzana Raja has said that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has always provided generous support to Pakistan when it was direly needed.
While meeting with Mohammed Khalifa Ahmed Al Qamzi, Secretary General of UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), she expressed her gratitude to RCA and the people of UAE for this kind support including earthquake 2005, floods of 2010 and 2011. It was mutually agreed that technical teams of both the organisations would meet in next fifteen days to study the details and move forward with the idea of possible collaboration between BISP and RCA.
Mohammed Khalifa Ahmed Al Qamzi appreciated the efforts of BISP particularly the poverty scorecard survey and the invaluable data gathered about the socio-economic conditions of every household of Pakistan. While mentioning the brotherly relations between the people of UAE and Pakistan, he acknowledged the role played by the Armed Forces of Pakistan in establishing the UAE Air Force and armed forces. He said that Pakistan was the most important country for the people of UAE.
The Secretary General RCA also shown agreement to support BISP in its endeavors and proposed that they needed to study the initiatives of BISP in detail particularly its Vocational Training and Health Insurance schemes.
Earlier, the BISP Chairperson apprised the Secretary General of RCA about the initiatives of BISP and its technology based operations as well as e governance. She informed RCA about the transparency of BISP and the worldwide appreciation it has accomplished during a short span of time after its establishment.
Farzana Raja explained that due to expansion of BISP to more than 7 million families all over Pakistan, there was an urgent need to seek donor support for plugging the budgetary gap for continued support of the poor people of Pakistan. Chairperson BISP also address Pakistani community based in UAE and apprised them of the efforts of BISP regarding poverty alleviation. Pakistani Community pledged its full financial support to BISP on the occasion.
