Rawalpindi: Afghan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Umer Daudzai held an important meeting with Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani here on Wednesday.
Sources said that the ambassador left for Kabul shortly after the meeting.
According to the sources, the meeting was an effort to reduce misunderstandings leading to a blame game in the region. The sources underlined the importance of the meeting that fell in the backdrop of Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s visit to New Delhi and signing of strategic partnership agreement with India.
When Director General, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Athar Abbas was contacted in this regard, he denied the meeting between the ambassador and COAS. Â “No such meeting took place on Wednesday,” he added.
Earlier, the sources said that the Afghan ambassador was in Kabul recently and flew to Islamabad on Monday only to meet Pakistan army chief and returned to Afghanistan immediately after the meeting.
It is pertinent to mention that the All Parties Conference APC the other day had criticised retired US Admiral Mike Mullen for not revealing the whole truth while accusing Pakistan.
According to Pakistani media, the ISI had facilitated Americans’ meeting with one of key leaders of Haqqani group. In facilitating Americans negotiations with Haqqanis, Pakistan is truly supporting process peace of reconciliation in Afghanistan.
