Karachi: Heavy contingent of police and rangers raided a mosque and a mudrassah (seminary) in Karachi on the alleged tip off about the presence of a Taliban commander.
More than 20 police mobiles participated in the raid conducted near Kati Pahari area of Orangi Town, The News Tribe correspondent reported from Karachi.
Police sources said that there were alleged reports of Taliban commander Mullah Saeed Akbar.
Unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on police and rangers mobiles with heavy weapons and escaped by taking the advantage of darkness. Police and rangers personnel safe their lives by hiding nearby houses.
Local police SHO Pervez Akbar Gujjar told media that the alleged commander was still in the mosque but police were facing difficulties to enter the spot owing to very congested area. Residents of the area were also demonstrating and forcing police to enter the mosque.
