Taizz: Hundreds of protesters staged a protest rally in Taizz, demanding an end to what they call the military rule of Ali Abdullah Saleh’s regime. The protesters on Saturday called for the army and all remnants of Saleh’s regime to leave power.
Saleh remains in Saudi Arabia, where he fled to for medical treatment following a rocket attack on the Yemeni presidential palace in the Yemeni capital Sana’a on June 3.
Earlier in September, Yemeni revolutionaries said the country’s embattled dictator was making an attempt to turn the popular uprising in Yemen into a civil war.
Military forces siding with the people’s revolution in Yemen pledged to protect the Yemeni people by countering Saleh’s loyalists.
Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis stage mass demonstrations in the country’s major cities regularly, demanding an end to rampant government corruption and unemployment in the country as well as the ouster and trial of the country’s US-backed Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Hundreds of Yemeni protesters have been killed in the regime’s brutal crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations since the start of the popular uprising in late January.
The demonstrators have vowed to continue the peaceful demonstrations until victory.
