Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza GilaniĀ has appealed to the international organizations and overseas Pakistanis to help the flood victims in Sindh.
Addressing the nation, PM Gilani said that the torrential rain caused wreaks havoc in interior Sindh and the nation need to stand united at this crucial hour.
He mentioned about the earthquake in 2005, that during 2009-2010 floods which were the worst ones in the history where the nation stood united and helped the affected people with a national spirit, and we also need such spirit now.
He expressed the dilapidated situation of victims saying that the people are living under open sky and the flood havoc caused losses several times more than expected.
Gilani also said that so far government provided Rs 2 billion right now but the amount would reach to 60 billion by Sept 20.
He said that 141 died, it was the 145 percent more rain than previous year, 21 districts affected in which Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Alayar, Benazirabad, Khairpur, Noshehro Feroze, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Jamshoro, Badin affected worst.
He said the flood water submerged 4.1 million acre area, made 4 million people homeless but we established 4,0000 camps 1,50,000 population have been shifted.
He said the flood water destroyed the 1,700,000 acres cash crops and 64 thousands cattle washed away in the water.
He said the government did not waste any time to help the victims.
He thanked the Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and Balochistan governments for helping the Sindh flood victims.
