Bulawayo, Zimbabwe: Pakistan’s decision to give young fast bowlers a chance backfired on Thursday when they failed against Zimbabwe, the weakest side in test cricket, in their only test of the tour. It was spinner Saeed Ajmal who gave Pakistan some hope by taking first three wickets. Zimbabwe were 245 for 4 at the end of first day’s play. Sohail Khan took the fourth wicket.
Mawoyo was the star of the day as he scored 82 with the help of 10 fours. Sibanda managed 45, which included nine fours, before falling to Ajmal. Masakadza and Taylor then fell cheaply to Ajmal and Zimbabwe slumped to 111 for 3.
But Taibu joined Mawoyo and took the score to 176. Khan then had him caught behind after he had scored 44.
Ervine was not out on 38 with Mawoyo.
