Islamabad/Karachi/Lahore: Nation celebrates feast of Eid ul Fitr as mosques and open grounds across Pakistan filled with people wearing scalp caps and Shalwar Qameez, traditional dress of Pakistanis, to offer prayer of Eid.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani with most of his cabinet team offered prayer at Faisal mosque, considered to be one of the largest mosques in the world, in the capital city of Islamabad. The president Asif Ali Zardari will be celebrating the feast in China where he is on an official tour.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, after having two busy days in Karachi, offered prayer in Lahore, the capital city of Punjab. The provincial Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif offered prayer at his native area of Raiwind.
Interior Minister Abdul Rehman Malik offered prayer at the police headquarter in Karachi, the financial hub of the country.
The government has already declared four holidays from Aug 31 to September 3 for Eid to provide people an opportunity to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones in their respective native towns.
Ulema and preachers highlighted the significance of the holy event as well as pray for welfare for the Muslim World in their sermons.
In Federal Capital most of the people travel to their native towns and the city give a deserted look with scattered traffic on roads and empty markets.
Unusual rush is seen at the bus stands and the railway stations as people try to secure their booking to avoid any problem.
The government has also announced to run five special up and down trains to different parts of the country to ferry those hundreds and thousands who temporarily house in the port city and other cities.
