Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. This statement of Abraham Lincoln,
the former president of the United States, gives us a brilliant piece of advice to every one of us about how to approach any
problem.
How to get through exams and how to get good grades is what bothers us all during our education life. We all ask our seniors
about what to do. They advise us to work hard. But working hard isn’t the ultimate solution.
The experts of education say the solution is smart study. They advise us to adopt ways of study that can help us succeed in minimal time. The experts of education psychology say this doesn’t mean short cuts.
They say we should keep our focus; attend at least three classes every day including that of our major subject; avoid
skipping classes except when it is unavoidable; get information from teachers and fellow students the same day if we miss any
class; pay full attention during a presentation or a lecture; schedule our activities in such a way that they don’t interfere
with our classes; ask the teacher what we don’t understand in the class; and not to delay our questions too much.
To listen and to understand are two different things. It is very important to understand what teacher says.
We must attend the seminars that our department organises because there we get to listen experts who have almost all the
updates on the subject. Listening to them is much better than reading books.
We must try to maintain good relations with our teachers. We must show them that we are keen learners. Then teachers will
help us in every possible manner. They will never refuse to give time to us.
We must have friends in our class. Without friends we will get into trouble whenever we miss a class or a point made by the
teacher. Sometimes, friends make us understand what we failed to understand in the class. Friends help each other in
preparation of notes and assignments. Besides, combined study with friends is very helpful for some students when exams are
near.
Many student don’t bother to get text books, what to speak of reference books. We must have books with us so that we can
better understand our subject. Sometimes, teachers go very fast during lectures and we miss a lot of what they say. On these
occasions, books help us a lot. Because what knowledge is imparted to us in a brief lecture is there in the book with details
and we can read and reread it many times over.
We must give two to three hours to study besides classes. But we must divide these two to three hours so that we don’t feel
overburdened. And we must stay focused and not let anything disturb us.
We must not be hungry during the class. This distracts us. We must be dressed in clothes and shoes that are well-fitted.
otherwise, they might distract our attention during lectures.
Mobile phones must be kept off during classes. Putting them on the silent mode is not enough. Because even if it buzzes
during class, our attention gets off the lecture.
We have gathered all these tips from experts who have been immensely successful in their education career. Guys, we can get a lot better grades by following these tips without having to strain ourselves.
