Karachi: Six more people were gunned down and several others injured since midnight as violence continues in different parts of Karachi on Saturday.
The fresh incidents took place, Orangi Town, North Nazimad, Korangi and other areas, taking the death toll during four days of unabated target killing to over 70. Another police official scumbed to injuries who was injured during an ambushed on Friday.
Police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies seem to have been paralyzed by the unknown target killers with traders demanding army deployment in the metropolis as what they said police and Rangers were not able to bring the killers to justice.
Gun battle between police and miscreants continued in Chakra Goth area of Korangi Town for several hours. Heavy firing is being carried out from both the sides but no casualty or injury has so far reported.
Police officials said that miscreants set at least eight vehicles on fire in Chakra Goth.
In the fresh wave of violence two bodies were recovered from a car in Pak Colony. In another incident, two bullet-riddled bodies were recovered from Shadman Town, North Karachi. Another man was gunned down in Korangi No 5 ½.
Meanwhile, a hand grenade was hurled at a house in Dhobi Ghat, Liyari have left two people including a woman injured.
Aerial firing incidents were also reported in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Burns Road areas.
SP Gulshan-e-Iqbal Waqar Malhan has claimed to release two abducted men.
Karachi Police Chief Saud Mirza said that two target killers have been arrested in last four days and he assured that the arrested accused would be brought in front of media but he did not mention the time.
He said the terror activities could not demoralised police and action against terrorists would be continued with full swing. He said that at least 10 suspects have been arrested from Chakra Goth.
At least six police commandos of Elite Force were killed in a miscreants’ ambush in Karachi, leaving dozens others injured in the attack.
At the one hand citizens and police personnel are being massacred while at the other hand buses packed with passengers are being abducted. But law enforcing agencies are seemed hapless to arrest the killers of a single incident.
It is pertinent to mention here that Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has been in Karachi for the last 24 hours but no achievement has so far been seen in Karachi even not a single terrorist was arrested despite law enforcing agencies have been put on red alter.
The latest development took place in Korangi No 2 ½ where police bus was sprayed with bullets from four sides, The News Tribe correspondent reported from Karachi.
A private Pakistani news channel quoted one of the injured police personnel, saying there were over 50 policemen in the bus, out of which at least 30 received bullet injures. The policeman also told that there were over 50 attackers who ambushed the police van.
He informed that they were moving towards Chakra Goth to control the situation where two groups were fighting each other. But when they reached at Korangi No 2 ½ they were attacked from four sides.
He also informed that the vehicle of DIG East and DSP Quaidabad was way forward of the police bus. In the attack, DSP Badar Shah sustained injuries while DIG East Akram Naeem remained unhurt.
The injured were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment. The hospital administration said that death toll may rise as some of the injured were serious. Medical emergency has been in JPMC to secure police personnel.
Meanwhile, IG Police (IGP) Sindh Wajid Durrani has claimed that three attacked were also killed in the encounter.
Another development took place near Edhi Morgue, Sohrab Goth from where a minibus of route W-11, packed with passengers, were abducted. But it is yet to be known that how many passengers were in the bus.
According to media reports and unofficial figures, more than 80 people have been killed within last four days.
