Gaza: Officials say an Israeli airstrike has killed six Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, hours after a several people were in southern Israel.
The Israeli military confirmed airstrikes were carried out on Thursday targeting the city of Rafah, which lies on the Palestinian costal enclave’s border with Egypt, a foreign news agency reported.
The strikes came shortly after multiple attacks left at least six people dead in the southern Israeli city of Eilat.
Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak has accused Gaza of organizing the deadly attacks and vowed a “full force” response against the Palestinians in the territory.
The democratically elected Hamas government in Gaza strongly rejected the allegations and warned against any act of aggression against the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-mon raised fears of an “escalation” in the Israel-Palestinian conflict following the Eilat attacks and called on both sides to act with restraint.
