Karachi: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said all the arms licenses shall stand cancel after 31 August, adding that new licenses would be issued after the verification of NADRA to overcome the forgery.
Addressing a high level meeting in Karachi on Monday, he said that after the passage of current month police would take stern action against unlicensed arms holders under anti terrorism act by taking arms into custody. He said that during 2011 lot of forgery was reported and misuse of arms licences for multiple entries against one arm license.
Manzoor Hussain Wassan, Home Minister Sindh, IG Sindh Wajid Durrani, Saud Mirza CCPO Karachi, General Manager NADRA Brig. (R) Zahid Ahmed and high officials of ISI, Rangers and FIA took part in the meeting.
The interior minister advised entire arms licenses holders that approach the nearest NADRA office for issuance of new arm licence which has been specially designed with smart card to overcome the forgery chances.
It was noted with great concern that mobile SIM cards are still being used in criminal activities which is the constant way of aiding criminals. In the meeting it was also appreciated that PTA has blocked 2.1 million mobile SIMs but there are reports that still many unverified SIMs are still being used.
It has also been decided that it will be mandatory on the SHO of each police station to collect and maintain complete population data of the individuals/families of his area where NADRA and Population Senses Commission will assist the SHOs at Karachi. He will also maintain proper computerized record of the criminals/suspects/land grabbers and drug barons of his jurisdiction.
In the meeting satisfaction was shown about the areas being monitored through helicopters and other means and it was decided to enhance the areal monitoring further to pin- point the movement of criminals and suspects.
