Peshawar: Radio Pakistan will kick off special transmission from Monday to be focused on development in the tribal areas, said a spokesman in FATA Secretariat.
Besides, establishment of 14 local radio stations in various locations of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas are planned and the estimated cost of these stations is to be Rs 767 million for three years.
According FATA officials the planned local radio stations would help pacing up development in the area, while three radio stations have already started work, official sources said.
Official sources said that the programmes to be started by Radio Pakistan would create awareness among the people of the tribal belt about the social issues and highlight development activities in FATA.
Under the new initiative‚ a new module titled ‘FATA News’ will be introduced in 9 pm Radio Khabarnama to give maximum coverage to the far flung areas of the tribal regions, said an official in radio Pakistan. Two special Pashto bulletins one in the morning and one in the evening as FATA news will be broadcast from Radio Pakistan Peshawar, the sources said.
The proposed radio stations will be located in Wana and Jandola in South Waziristan‚ Miranshah and Razmak in North Waziristan‚ Parachinar in Kurram Agency‚ Mandan in Orakzai Agency‚ Landi Kotel in Khyber Agency and Khar in Bajaur Agency. One of the three functional radio stations is located in Khyber Agency and is quite popular in the local population that keenly listens to its news and current affairs segments.
