Peshawar: A local court on Monday indicted chief of banned Tehreek-Nifaz-e-Shariat Muhammadi (TNSM) Maulana Sufi Muhammad in murder case of seven policemen.
Sufi Muhammad had played a key role in striking a peace deal between the government and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Swat prior to military offensive in the valley back in 2009. One of Sufi’s sons was killed in the operation while he was arrested during a military raid. Maulana Sufi Muhammad shortly after brokering the peace deal between the government and the militants while addressing a huge gathering had declared the Pakistani democracy and the constitution against the Islamic Sharia.
He is the father in law of fugitive Taliban commander Maulana Fazlullah who abandoned the restive valley shortly after the military operation.
