Xinjiang: Chinese media has said that several people were killed in an attack on a police station in China’s Xinjiang province
Several people including two security personnel and attackers died in the attack. The situation is now reported to be contained.
A large number of ethnic Uighurs lives in the Xinjiang province. Tensions have flared up due to Han Chinese migration and strict controls. In 2009, tensions flared between the Muslim Uighur minority and the Han Chinese which culminated into deadly ethnic riots in Xinjiang.
Uighur population is concerned about the migration of Han Chinese migrants which is marginalizing the Uighur culture.
